Windfall Energy’s first investment from Bethnal Green Ventures
We are thrilled to announce that Windfall Energy has been selected to join Bethnal Green Ventures' Tech for Good programme. This marks an exciting milestone in our journey to make energy flexibility accessible to everyone, regardless of property type or ownership status.
About Bethnal Green Ventures
Bethnal Green Ventures (BGV) stands as Europe's leading early-stage tech for good venture capital firm, with a remarkable track record of supporting businesses that tackle significant social and environmental challenges. Their impressive portfolio includes companies that have redefined their sectors, such as FairPhone, which creates sustainable smartphones; Piclo, an energy flexibility marketplace; TaskHer, providing women-led trade services; and DrDoctor, revolutionising healthcare appointment management. And, we’re really excited to work alongside the other amazing companies on our cohort.
BGV's commitment to backing technology that creates positive change aligns perfectly with our mission at Windfall Energy, making this partnership a natural fit for our growth ambitions.
Why We Chose BGV
The decision to join BGV's programme was driven by two key factors: the support structure and the investment opportunity.
The programme provides a combination of intensive support and an equity investment that will enable us to further test our solutions with customers and gain initial market traction. This funding approach gives us the runway to refine our product while building meaningful relationships with early adopters.
Beyond the financial aspect, the BGV ecosystem offers invaluable resources for a company at our stage. We'll benefit from direct access to the BGV team's expertise in scaling impact businesses, connections to their network of successful tech for good founders, and mentorship from industry experts. Their community of investors, partners, and potential customers creates a fertile environment for growth and collaboration.
Our Goals for the Programme
During our time with BGV, we have set ambitious but focused goals that will position Windfall Energy for its next phase of development.
Our current plan is to bring the Windfall Plug into production as an introductory product that familiarises customers with energy flexibility concepts. We see this as a strategic entry point that builds a customer base for our more impactful Windfall Battery solution.
That said, whilst we believe in this strategy, we remain adaptable to learnings. Our overarching goal is to deeply understand customer needs, launch a product that directly addresses these needs, and achieve initial market traction. We are committed to following the evidence wherever it leads.
A second critical goal is refining our messaging. Energy flexibility is inherently complex, yet the entire mission of Windfall Energy is to simplify this concept for everyday users. Throughout the programme, we'll be testing and refining how we communicate our value proposition to ensure we're speaking to customers in the most effective way possible.
Finally, we aim to evolve our business model. While we've initially focused on a straightforward direct-to-consumer approach, we recognise that the upfront cost of solutions like the Windfall Battery presents a barrier for many potential users. We'll be exploring alternative models, such as financing or rental options that reduce initial costs, as well as potential partnership approaches that could accelerate adoption. By the programme's conclusion, we intend to have a clearly defined business model that maximises both accessibility and impact.

How You Can Help
Our success relies on building a community of users and supporters who share our vision for a more flexible, efficient energy future. There are two meaningful ways you can contribute to our journey:
First, we invite you to sign up for our mailing list to stay informed about our progress, product launches, and opportunities to get involved. Your engagement helps us demonstrate community interest to potential investors and partners.
Second, consider joining our beta testing programme. We're actively seeking participants who live in flats or rental properties to test our Windfall Plug and provide feedback that will shape the future of our product. Your real-world experience is invaluable in creating a solution that truly works for everyone.
Looking Forward
Joining the BGV programme represents not just funding, but a vote of confidence in our vision and approach. We're excited to leverage this opportunity to accelerate our development and bring affordable energy flexibility to households that have traditionally been left out of the green energy transition.
We look forward to sharing updates on our progress throughout the programme and beyond. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far—this milestone belongs to our entire community.
