Windfall plugs are clever little things. To use it, you can plug anything into it, just like you would any plug adaptor.

It can then be turned on and off remotely, which we admit isn’t that impressive. However, what is impresive is that you can set the plug to “Windfall” mode and then it will magically come on in the middle of the night when electricty is super cheap and usually the greenest electricty available.

Here are some things you might use it for.

The simplest example is just to plug your phone into it overnight. That way your phone only charges at the cheapest/greenest time and is still ready for your day in the morning. This could of course be your tablet, laptop or other portable devices too.

Another one could be your battery-powered vacuum clearer. Plug the charger into a Windfall plug and it will keep your vacuum cleaner topped up with green electricty. That would work for an e-bike or scooter too.

Or if you have a dehumidifer you could set it to run for a couple of cheap hours overnight and keep damp at bay.

Basically, a Windfall plug is for anything that’s battery powered or can usefully be turned on in the middle of the night.
